• Recently, I learned of the passing of Ken Melich, z’l, retired from the Port Authority Police many years ago. 

• Condolences are also sent to Shomrim Treasurer Kenn Honig and his family on the loss of his father Murray. Kenn is the Commanding Officer of the PAPD at LaGuardia Airport.

• Get well wishes to retired member Al Itkin (PAPD) of Long Beach, New York.

• Shomrim Secretary Betty Astrizky recently conducted a Passover food drive for the Jewish Services Coalition of Far Rockaway, which was prominently featured in PA News. Betty collected donated items and delivered them the week of Passover. Unfortunately, not enough kosher food items were donated for this deserving Charity, which serves the needs of the residents, both Jewish and non-Jewish, of the Rockaways. Despite receiving modest donations, we look forward to better results next year when taking into account the generosity of our members.

• Please remember that the Port Authority Shomrim Society receives no funding from the Port Authority. We subsist solely on member dues and donations.  If you haven’t paid your 2008 dues, please send a check or money order for $18.00 to Shomrim Society, P.O. Box 300011, JFKIA Station, Jamaica, New York 11430.  In addition to dues, any donations submitted to help our organization are greatly appreciated.
