Message from The President

I’d like to start off by wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year! The past year has been a major success for our organization, and with being reelected to my second term as President, I hope to make this year even better. I’m proud to announce that I’ve been appointed as a trustee at the International Synagogue at JFK's Terminal 4. Shomrim has worked with Rabbi Bennett Rackman, the chaplain of the synagogue, on events over the past few years and we have always been warmly welcomed. For those of you who have never been to the International Synagogue, it is a beautiful chapel that combines the best of the spirituality and history of Judaism at JFK.  If you're planning on taking a flight out of JFK, it's well worth a visit. Don't forget to drop a few shekels in their tzedakah box!

Our last Executive / General Membership meeting was held in October, which served as a forum for both the board and myself to discuss many events and issues regarding our members. We welcome your feedback and participation at our next meeting (date to be announced). Please do attend, and voice your opinions on what you would like to see Shomrim tackle. I'd also like to see more members become actively involved in the planning and assistance with events. Don't be shy! We can use all the help we can get.

The Port Authority Shomrim Society is accepting applications for members whose children are eligible under the rules of the organization for the Annual Scholarship Fund. Please click here for the application form, or contact me for a hard copy of the application. All students that started their freshman year of college this past September 2009 are eligible. Applications are due no later than December 31, 2009.
